Well, I decided to move get a new faster dvd rom and a new DL dvd burner to replace my old CDRW and DVD rom. I pulled out the old drive and installed the new dual layer first, and as soon as it got to the windows found hardware icon it would reboot. Since I had everything set up correctly, I thought the drive was defective. I got a new one and it installed fine. Now I have my new dvdrom and I am getting the same problem. As soon as the windows icon comes up stating that it has found new hardware, the system reboots. Any ideas guys?

It does show up properly in the bios, but when it gets to the found hardware popup in Windows it gets stuck and reboots. I have 4 different drives here and they all do the same thing, regardless if the are slaves, masters, single drives, whichever IDE . For some reason it just hangs.....:(

Man, this one had me stumped. Even in safe mode it would just reboot wuithout an error message. I tried safe mode again and one of the options was to turn off automatic reboot on system failure. I did that and when it was loading safe mode it came up with a BSOD telling me the file AFS2K.SYS was the culprit. After checking around it looks like a program that came with my printer, called HP DISC memories, was the root of the issue. Uninstalled that, and it works perfectly. I love when companies bundle crap software with their drivers. I should have just deleted it when it installed......thanks for the help guys....:)
