Problems installing Kyro II videocard

Hi, I am building a nforceII system for a friend, and have never run into this problem before even though I've built several systems. I have not used this type of videocard however. the motherboard is a biostar nforce II , and the card is a hercules prophet 4500 64mb kyro II card. My problem I'm having is that the system loads no drivers whatsover for the videocard on a load of xp, and when I go download the appropiate drivers from the hercules site, they do not install at all, I have tried installing direct x 9, and not installing it, I am installing the nforce drivers first, since that is necessary to get the ethernet working and get the driver downloaded. also it does not show any video adapter under the device manager to click on and update the drivers that way. It is stuck in 4 bit color. If anyone has any advice on how to get these drivers to load I would appreciate it greatly!

Wow, a Kyro.

Man those cards sucked ass.

I should dig back into some threads from 3-4 years ago, and make fun of the posters who claimed it was the second coming and that Kyro would be the next major player.

P.S. sorry I have no answer for you :(

Indeed I know that the card sucks, but this person I am building the system for is on a very limited budget, and it was the best card I could buy for 20 something dollars. He is not interested in playing all the latest games, but would like to be able to play some a few years old. I will try the other drivers. I've got no experience with the kyro chipset whatsoever, drivers not installing for a videocard is something I haven't ever had an issue with, so obviously it isn't a top of the line card based on that alone LOL.

I don't believe a Kyro/KyroII will work on a nForce2 (or newer) based board. It is not a 1.5v AGP card.

I've got a Leadtek GF2 GTS 32MB DDR I would sell your buddy for $25 shipped that should work on any motherboard and be way better than any Kyro2.

PM me and we can work something out for your PowerVR disadvantaged friend.

yes, the kyro II is 1.5 compliant, if it were not so, then it woulnd't even put a image on the screen, much like the oldschool viper v770 that I have already tried on nforce systems in the past. I think I have found the root of my problem. For some reason, the AGP to pci bridge under system device manager says it has no resources free to run. This happens, even if the kryo is out of the system, and a regular old pci card is used. I do not know what is conflicting with it, but this could be the reason the drivers will not load, and that the adapter doesn't even show up. There are no add in cards in the system whatsoever, other than the video card. Has anyone run into this problem? Thanks for the offer on the gts, the only problem I see with that, is that I have already purchased this card for my friend, and he certainlly doesn't have the money to buy another one unless I could return this one. I will however let him know about it.

No problem either way. It's just being stored here, thought it might be of use to him.

I stuck a pci card back in the system, and the agp to pci bridge resource issue went away, but even with a pci card, it still says not enough resources to run on the video adapter properites? How can a system with no add on cards on it period not have enough resources to run a trident pci card or a apg one. LOL.

Well heres a simple question:

I see in your post its an Nforce 2,

Could it be that you did not disable the on board video?

Kyro *is not* compatible with NForce2!!! It does not matter if something displays or not, if you leave the Kyro in there it will be fried or the motherboard will fry or both will fry!

Heh.

I had the EXACT same issue.

The Hercules Prophet 4500 64mb is both 1.5v and 3.3v compatible - trust me, I own one. Other Kyro II cards weren't, though.

I built an nForceIIUltra system for a guy and it wouldn't fire up the bridge. Since it was my own video card and his didn't come in yet, I simply returned it and waited - never did figure that bug out.

By the way, the Kyro II > most GF2's - thats why it sold rather well. Unfortunately, they never had a follow-up card, but thats another story. What kills it for modern games is no Hardware T&L, similar to the plight of Voodoo boards.

The Kyro II played Jedi Knight II and Warcraft 3 just fine, though. Unreal 2 and Tourney 2K4 won't touch it, though.

Looking around for a bit, I found something. Some have had success by doing this, though its a fix for a different problem:

"When you uninstall nforce drivers, it mistakenly deletes the display thing in registry. You become sol until you put it back in. Im my case, {4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} is the key i have to back up, i keep it in accesible location, and whenever i uninstall nforce drivers, i click on it to import it into registry. I believe it varies depending on the card you use, so you have to click them all in that registry subtree and figure out which one is for display.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"Class"="Display"" - Source">http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/vie...rt=0&amp;sid=6fa6a428d29e1d4202949e2c2b53263f[/S</a>

Edit: I can't test this myself - I don't own an nVidia chipset mobo.

Kyro Tilebased rendering- a great concept
Kyro pricing- more than fair at the time

The ability to put your GF2 on any motherboard, play any game, and download unified current drivers- Priceless.

For cool nostalgia there's Kyro2. For everything else, GF2>Kyro2.

The recent drivers do have enhanced t&amp;l which does correct alot of the problems with not having hardware t&amp;l, however with driver releases being very infrequent the Kyro2 is pretty much dead! :(

I think the only place we will see PowerVR Series5 (ie Kyro4) is in the Arcade with Sega, I would trade in my msi 6800 gt and msi 5900 xt for a PowerVR Series5 video card anyday! :)
