problems in Generals

just the other day decided to fire up generals zero hour and give my RTS skills a work out.

this is on my gaming rig

A64 3200 NC
1Gig geil PC3200
Leadtek 6800GT
Audigy 2
ASUS K8N-E Deluxe

anyway i doa skirmish, set game speed to max as the 31fps real time speed is just horrible to watch let alone play

2 mins in and everythings at a crawl. its almost as if ive left Dr DivX encoding in the background then tried to play the game. it stutters stops and starts like crazy. then after bout 5 mins of that its begins to run fine again...until about 30 seconds later it does the stuttering stanely act again....usually this then lasts till i either quit or finish the game

im running the Nvidia 71.20 drivers, and as far as i know the latest NForce 3 drivers. all other games play just fine.

any suggestions to the problem?

If you were playing a game with 7 different Hard AIs in it (esp. Infantry General and Tank General) it'll slow down alot. ZH really eats up tons of CPU power, due to ineffecient pathfinding. This is espescially noticable if you play with 7 Hard Infantry Generals on Twilight Flame. On my computer it slows to a crawl, while in a normal 2 player game it is at a constant 30fps.

well had a quick skim through, seems a bios update or bios update after a play in OmniExtreme does the job. however as im only experiencing this in one game, i think it would be safer to jus leave my bios as is

i have downloaded the latest bios off the Leadtek site, but i have no idea how to flash or back up my old one.

I get the same problem sometimes when I play against Inf Gen, and even if I put everything to lowest settings, it makes no difference. I think it's a game issue, and not a problem with your system.

There is a limiter I believe in generals to 30fps. . .

I remember seeing something to unlock the limitation somewhere. . .

Yeah, my system slows to a crawl if I have more than 4 hard armies on the map. I don't know what to say, I'm runnin an A64 3400 NC. Must be a problem with the game.

Put this GameData.ini in C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\Data\INI
(This would be for the default install directory and create the INI folder if it does not exist)

That should be all you have to do.

This GameData.ini has "MaxCameraHeight = 550.0", normal is like 330...

If you want to zoom out more, you will need to change "DrawEntireTerrain = NO" Flag to YES. But you will need a fast PC to run it...

You know, there is a setting before you start a skirmish game, named "Game Speed". Move the slider across and it'll raise the Maximum FPS.
