Problems getting TV to project image from computer

Hey guys,

I'm trying to stream through an HDMI cable from my desktop pc to my 46 inch sharp aquos TV, but the picture is just black. I have windows 7 and went into my control panel to extend my monitors option, I also tried changing the resolution, but the screen is just black. I have only 2 inputs for HDMI so I know I'm on the right one.

I also tried this with my gfs laptop and both don't work, I'm afraid my TV is not capable of this for one reason or another, any ideas?
 
Maybe extend it the wrong thing to do. Just duplicate the screen. I think when you extend windows on two monitors you would have to drag the windows onto the second screen.

If your TV has HDMI input, it should work. My dinosaur Dell laptop can do it...

Right click your desktop>screen resolution>detect and see if your computer even sees the TV.

When I hooked my HTPC up to my TV (via HDMI) I had to fiddle with some of the settings a bit to get it to display correctly... part of the problem was the computer was not sending a signal... and the TV would shutdown.
 
Figured it out, most HDMI cables are not directional so they work with either side plugged in. I bought a redmere cable and each side has to be connected to the correct port. Wish they had a warning on the package, took me about 45 mins to figure it out.

Really? I've never heard of directional signal cables... (in generic PNP use.)

Redmere cables are directional since they incorporate a signal booster using the power available from the destination HDMI port. If you plug that end of the cable into the source, it fails to work.

I've got these cables connected to my HTPC and PS3 and they're fantastic. No more messing around with thick inflexible cables.
