Problems Formatting (40GB Maxtor)

hey,

When i select the drive in Win 2k and tell it to format in either fat or fat32 it gives me an error about the time it should be finishing the format. I went back and selected NTFS and it formatted fine but i wanted the drive in fat/fat32. I tried to reformat it as fat and it gave me the error again. Is there a size restriction or something for fat/fat32? or is there something else?

You cannot format a volume larger than 32 GB in size using the FAT32 file system in Win2K/XP!

I note your edit, if you need to format a FAT32 partition greater than 32GB, you will need to do it under Windows 98/SE/ME.
have a look at the FAQ topic. 🙂

If you want that 40gig all in one partition, you can try formatting in w98 or ME.
