Problems flashing Buffalo (WHR-HP-54G)?

There are many instructions at given sites such as Tomato's and DD-WRT's on what to do to get this router to flash to either firmware. None of the suggestions did anything for me, in a search I found this post and pretty much followed the instructions.

Unplugged the router, set the Linksys TFTP app to 99 tries (I had version 1.255), went into the router web admin page and hit reset and it took the firmware immediately. I didn't do anything else including the IP changes that were recommended.

I was getting nonstop timeouts before I tried this method and did everything suggested (registry changes to turn off media sense, using half duplex 10mbit NIC configurations and so forth). The only thing I hadn't tried yet from the DD-WRT suggestions was to put a switch in between (because I don't have one). Maybe that works and hopefully you don't have to do anything to get this to go but I wanted to get a post out there for people searching on the timeout issue while trying to flash a Buffalo router. I was up till 4am trying to get it to go last night and spent hours this morning too (yes I'm employed so I was tired today at work). 😛

Tomato (I'm on 1.25) is great. Hope this post helps someone in the future.

The timing is pretty funky for flashing the buffalos. It usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get it. Using a switch definitely helps.

Everyone should have an extra switch (or two) lying around. They're like NICs and old video cards, just have extras. 😉
