Welcome to the Forums kl006 :) Can you give us a full list of the parts, and brand/model info can be helpful, so be as specific as you can.

First shot-in-the-dark guess: you have a Western Digital hard drive, it's on a cable all by itself, and you forgot to jumper it for Single Drive. *hides Magic 8-Ball again*

Or if you're installing a SATA drive as your boot device, your BIOS needs to be set to boot from SCSI and you may need to install your SATA drivers while you're installing windows since they're not included.

For a Barracuda 7200.7, you would want the jumper cap in the Master position (sitting on the two leftmost pins in the group). Use a standard flat 80-wire ribbon cable and plug the drive into the black plug and the motherboard into the blue plug (most 80-wire cables have a blue plug for the motherboard end, which is further from the other two plugs on the ribbon). See if it likes that better.

It's worrisome that the drive is making weird noises, though :Q Could you try attaching it to a different computer temporarily, just to see if the other computer's BIOS can detect it? The drive doesn't happen to be on a reduced-voltage power cable (such as the "Fan Only" cable on an Antec TruePower power supply), does it?

i have tried teh black plug into the drive and blue into motherboard. i even tried another cable(thinking ribbon cable was defective)

i tried that on another computer. but the barracuda still makes the constant beeping noise. i have the antec aria case. just using the supplied power cables.

Yeah, sounds like RMA time for that drive if it makes noise (they're a very quiet model by nature) and especially if it isn't detected by the motherboard(s). Bummer... but the warranty will cover it. :(
