System: HP a6200n w/ Vista Home, 4GB ram, 2 SATA drives, 1 internal DVD-RW and 1 external USB drive.
Mobo video is NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE / nForce 430
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ / 2.6 GHz
System has only 1 PCI Express x16 slot

When I have the card in, it is reconized by the mobo, in that it disables the onboard video.
Low-rez video works, but as soon as I try to install the drivers, I get a BSOD with the error "tried to write to unwriteable memory" (paraphrase).
I've tried changing BIOS settings, and tried uninstalling the NVidia drivers, then powering down, installing the card (power cable attached), and rebooting. No change in behaviour.

Suggestions?

Check for an updated BIOS: HP A6200N

Disable all real-time protection features of antivirus and other security applications. Make sure you are logged in with Administrator privileges.

Inadequate PSU may also be the culprit.
