Problems accessing the internet

Ok i guys and gals i need some help here, i am about too through my PC out the window.

My problem is as follows:

I can only access the front pages of web sites and can't veiw anything else after that.

This is a clean install of WinXp pro, the only things that i have installed are as follows;
1) installed WinXp pro
2) installed motherboard Driver so that it reconises my 2 other HD's, and onboard LAN
3) installed Sound Card drivers.
4) installed Mozzila Firefox
5) installed Verizon ISP CD
6) installed Kaspersky Internet Securtiy Suite 7.135

i can update KIS but like i said i can do much more then what i have mentioned above. Any help that can get will be much appriated.

i think it might be a RAM prob, i still have yet to run MEMTEST86

Note: i probably won't be online for a couple of days because i have to use the local libary Pc

Note 2: I should also not that i changed the HD on this system because explorer.exe would restart every couple of minutes...and i also started to have the same problem on the Other HD as i am having with this one.

Thanks in advace

So you have an active internet connection but then can't view any other web pages...First check your firewall settings.. see how that looks. No luck there...then try to release and renew your ip address using the command prompt. I don't think its a virus issue if its a clean install but try running what ever virus programs you have. If you don't have any, google "free avg" and install and run that. Try running memtest and see how long you are stable for. Should be atleast 12 hours.

This isn't a hardware problem. No reason to run memtest. If your ram was flaky or faulty you'd be getting bsod's, file errors and crashing....NOT internet access issues.

Sounds to me like Kaspersky's firewall is blocking you. Uninstall Kaspersky and try browsing the web. If it works fine, then try downloading Avast or AVG free antivirus instead.

I've had issues with Kaspersky security suite before, so it sounds like the culprit.

ok thanks for the help guys, the odd thing with Kasperskey is that i have had it for years and never had a problem with it intill now. Even if i don't run Memtest right now, but if i ever do need to run it how long should i run memtest to see if i have any problems with the ram. the most i have ever run it was 2 hours

Thanks again

ok so i uninstalled Kaspersky and still having the same problems i think i don't have a choice but to run Memtest...any other ideas

Sorry about the double post

What keeps you from visiting that site? You may have just discovered your problem.

You don't have to download a utility to reset the network settings. Open a command prompt and type these commands:

netsh int ip reset file.txt
netsh winsock reset
(then reboot computer)

i did this and it said that it completed successfully but after reboot i am still having the same issue....should i try to reset my dsl modem again.

Just a quick update on my problem:

I tried to restart my dsl modem and it worked for a while at least. I was able to surf the net normally for a while after i had restarted my modem but when i went to turn it off and try to go back online i was back at square one..

The odd thing is that when i hook it up to a laptop it works fine, so i know suspect that there is a problem with my mother board..

Any body has any other ideas, please let me know

I can try that but i don't think it is my Dsl modem because i can use the modem on another computer without a problem.
