Hi,

I just got my Yamaha 8x4x24 CD-RW from Amazon, and seem to be having major problems. After I installed it, it detected fine and dandy, but when I go to burn a cd, right after it starts, I get a blue screen and the system hangs. I was reading something about having to disable DMA, and i found instructions on how to do this in the manual, but once I get to the CD-R in Device Manager, there is no "settings" button and I cannot turn off DMA. My guess is that something was changed in Windows 2000 and the option is somewhere else, where I can't find it. Has anyone experienced this problem and does anyone know how to fix it?

I'd appreciate some help, thanks!

You might need ASPI files for your burning software to function properly. I use NERO in Windows 2000 with no problem, and no need to install any ASPI files. However your results may vary. Read this http://www.ahead.de/en/W2K.htm

John, thanks for the response. Actually, the problem was that the cable was plugged into the wrong slot on the motherboard. It detected the drive and everything, but just wouldn't write to it. After I plugged it into another slot, everything worked fine and burned perfectly. I guess it wasn't DMA at all.
