My specs
ahtlon 700
384Mb ram
liteon 24102b burner

I just installed win xp, it's great. Exept for buning... for some reason when I burn a cd my comp lags like crazy and I can't even play an mp3.

When I used 2000 to burn with the same version of Nero (5.5.5.1) I had no probs at all, in fact it only used 1 or 2% of my cpu power at max!!...

any ideas what the problem might be?? I thought of the internatl burning software of xp... but I don't know. Please help!! THX

weird--prolly you messed up in your installation somewhere--i have liteon burner and nero under winxp--no probs whatsoever.

Did you upgrade from Win2k or do a fresh install of XP?
Do a fresh install if you upgraded.

This sounds like DMA isn't enabled check here:

My Computer>properties>hardware>device manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>primary or secondary IDE channel>propeties>advance settings

check the primary and secondary channels and make sure that there set for "auto detection" and "DMA if available".

He already said DMA is enabled. Reinstall Nero. Update all drivers. Update CDRW drive firmware if possible. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The worst that will happen is that you won't be able to use your computer for the 3-4 minutes that it takes for you to write a CD. 🙂

actually with the lag and burn proof kicking every 4 secs, itll take 10 mins to burn a full cd. thats why i learned to get the problem fixed.
