Hi, my friend has some important word documents that he backed up on a CDRW. He tried reading them with word (installed all the converters), but all he can see are boxes instead of letters. Is there some way to fix this ?
There's also some problems with some JPG format pictures he has on the CD; they dont work at all...

Thx for the help
Justin

I tried that, but it still doesn't work ... it just doesn't recognise the text and the formating

What is the file extension for the text documents on the CDRW?

What word processing application are you using on the pc?

Try opening files on a mac? Mac .doc files aren't always readable on PCs

If that fails, the CD could be bad.

first, there's no mac around to check ... second, there are other things on the CD (mp3'S and some free programs) that work well. My friend used nero to burn the CD... I just don't understand how it could do this to all of his word docs and pictures and not to the rest ... ¸this is just really weird ...
thx for the help ... but i need more

Dont laugh about this one...

but it actually happened to a friend of mine..

Try selecting all the text, and change to "Arial". Maybe the documents are saved with a font that this PC doesnt have.

I know it ll not work 99%.. but worth a try.

Might try FileCD, it will read about anything on a CD.

Did he use the "packet writer" INCD with Nero or the standard burning program?

no he didn't use incd ... i think he should've... I did try changing the font, but it still doesn't work ... problem is that word doesn't even recognise anything, no spaces or paragraphs .... nothing. What's that FileCD thing you're talking about...

it's a cdreading utility that costs money. you might try a google, or go to cdfreaks.com and try their forums. sorry i don't have a link available. cdfreaks should be able to help if you post, or you might find that it's a problem that has been addressed there before.
