problem with wireless USB adapter

i have a zonet wireless usb adapter. i currently have 2 on 2 seperate desktops. Now this problem occurs for both computers. Everytime i restart or turn on a computer the adapter will stay in "scanning" mode. It will never find available wireless connections. I have to disconnect and reconnect the adapters to be able to find available networks. i can imagine that this isnt normal. anyone know what might be wrong?
