I've got a bunch of boxes running Windows 2000 Pro and Microsoft Office 2000 Pro. All patches/updates are installed for both. Office 2000 is installed with all options except Access and is set to run everything from the local hard drive. Here's the problem...
If I log into the network as a standard user (not admin) and try to use Microsoft Photo Editor (ver 3.01) I get an error message stating, "No file format information can be found in the registry". I click "OK". Photo Editor opens. If go File | Open | and browse to a .jpg, .bmp, .gif, etc I get an error stating, "Photo Editor cannot find or open C:\desktop\testimage.jpg". If I simply double click the image on the desktop I get the same "No file format information can be found in the registry" error but after clicking OK to close that error I get another one stating "Unknown file format". I click OK and Photo Editor opens.
Now, if I log into the machine as a local admin or onto the domain as a domain admin I get no errors with Photo Editor. I *THINK* this is a problem with Photo Editor trying to write to the registry as a standard user. I've repeated this problem on several different boxes at my site (3 different images) and a guys box on another site who did not use any of my images. He loaded his system from scratch.
I've searched high and low on Microsoft's support site and elsewhere on the web and I've come up empty. Does anyone out there have Win2K Pro and Office2000 Pro installed as a standard user?
Thanks for any help!
Rob
