problem with Win2k and Highpoint controllers...

I've a buddy who has run into some problems with an Abit BE6-2 (I think that's the model, anyway)--he suggests against buying a motherboard with the Highpoint IDE controllers, otherwise you cannot use the DMA-66, and are forced to use the DMA-33.

What quality motherboards are out there (for a Pentium III slot 1) that have Win2k-compatible motherboards?

Otherwise, if I don't plan on installing/running Win2k and install/run Win98 instead...what's a good motherboard? I've been to bxboards.com and they suggest the Soyo and Abit:

Soyo SY-6BA+ IV - The superb Soyo SY-6BA+ III, sequel to the previous A-List winner, now with UltraDMA/66 onboard.

Abit BE6-2 - Another sequel, this time to the flawed BE6. Only misses out to the Soyo above due to less expansion.

Anyway--any thoughts you have on a good motherboard would be appreciated.
Win2k and Win98, that is...

Thanks...
