Problem with Win XP SP2

Like it says in the title.... After my machine has been on for around a day or so, this always happens. It makes things unstable, slower, my USB joystick wont work, etc. I have to do a hard reset to fix it.

The problem, when I look at task manager, seems to be a process called "system" (not system idle process, it's right above that) is using 99 or 100% of my CPU. When I hard boot, and things are running normal, the process is still there but it is using zerp percent CPU. I have no idea what is occuring after 10+ hours to make it start hanging.

I am 99.999% sure I am free of spyware, trojans, virus, etc. I did a google search and found several threads describing this same issue on various forums, but they never got a resolution. What do I do?

Someone just had this problem a while back. It was something to do with a USB device driver. That person removed the device from the Device manager and all was well.

Get process explorer and see if you can identify what is using the cpu time in system. Like you said, you have issues with your USB joystick, this might be a similar problem.
