Problem with video in older laptop

I am currently having problems with video in my dell l400. It uses ati rage 4mb p/m graphics. I did a print screen and here is the link (not sure which format will work)-

I have the color on full high color, so thats not it. I tried downloading the latest driver, to no avail. The motherboard is brand new (nos), and so is the inverter. The motherboard and inverter were working properly before this began, so I dont think it is either of those. I would say it could be the lcd, but it is not consistent, so I doubt it.

Please lmk if you guys have any ideas on fixes, or diagnostics software that you know of. Also, if anyone knows some driver update software that actually works, that would be cool. Thanks, Max

Alright I was thinking that that was the case. On my display, the screen looks as though it is running in a lower color mode, and as times it will shake violently. Today when I tried to check my mail on it, the screen split into 3 section which were out of syn with each other. In other words, it was like 3 interlocked bricks, moving the mouse straight up would result in it offsetting 3 times from bottom to top. The display slightly vibrates now, all the time (screen shot image, not the lcd itself).

Im thinking my possibilities are driver problems and lcd failure, although I have never had an lcd act like this, so I dont know. Any input would be great. Thanks, Max

I had this problem with an old compaq of mine. It was the video connection between the laptop and the lcd. The ribbon was loose. I just tightened it and these problems never came about again.

Alright cool, ill take it apart and see what I can come up with. Ill blow out the little socket too, and see if that would have been the cause. Ill post back with my findings, and thanks for the help! Max
