Problem with Video card?

this only shows up in games. Actually, it only shows up in 2 games... Lineage 2, and Battlefield 2.

looks like this.

Video card is a Nvidia Geforce 7900 GT (XFX)

i cant figure this ****** out. i've tried changing video card drivers, reinstalling the client, everything short of a reformat and such. but it hasnt helped.

it's not heat. i checked vid card temperature from Nvidia's drivers utility during a gaming session. it reached about 49 degrees C

the processor, for that matter, an Athlon x2 3800+, and i have 2 gigs of OCZ Ram.

i'm not sure what to think. anyone have options?

this is definitely getting worse over time. i'm thinking the video card might be failing? but i'm hoping not, because it's not the original video card cooler. :/

interesting. i've had similar happen on my old card but it never stayed. this was in WoW so i assumed it was WoW that was causing it.

is the card/memory overclocked?

no, neither. everything is at stock settings. in fact, the memory is slower than advertised timings.

From the looks of it, it looks like a memory problem on your video card.
IIRC, didn't a lot of the 7900GT's have vmem problems that would cause artifacts even at stock speeds?

Nvidia (I think) eventually replaced the ram with infineon (sp?) RAM but the Samsung ram on the old models wasn't the problem, IIRC, the problem was some voltage regulator or something to that degree.

You could just be unlucky since the 7900GT problems were sort of solved.

What other video cards have you tried?

Edit:
Also it could be a problem with your current drivers. You never know... 😛
You could try these or these or these (try them in the order I posted).

And when you install drivers make sure to do it the right way.

i'm running memtest86 atm on that particular machine. when it gets back up (1 successful full test), i'm gonna try what wizboy posted. except, i've never heard of XtremeG or whatever...

assuming it is the video card(god i hope not), and it has to be RMA'ed... what/how would i go about that? i still have the original video cooler, would i just clean off the old stuff, and stick it back on? cause the new cooler has memory heatsinks too... makes the whole thing a pain in the ass. and i never bothered to register the damn thing to begin with.... it's only like...a year old >.<

makes me wish i had the cash now for an 8800GTS.... but no cash on hand means no new video card :/

EDIT: i dont have any other video cards. only PCI-E computer in the house makes for no cross-checking :/

finished memtest, no errors. did a full uninstall and reinstall of the video card drivers, using the xtreme-G or whatever drivers. we'll see how it performs.

checking on video card heat, i also pulled the machine out and de-dusted the whole thing. wasnt a whole lot of dust cause of the sonata 2's intake filter, but we'll see if that made any difference. hopefully something will have happened, lol.

I've had some problems similar to that along with a persistent video driver crash. Couple of questions, are you using Vista and do you have Dreamscene running? If so, try removing the dreamscene, as I have had no crashes since removing mine.

You'd have to contact XFX to get an RMA. Assuming you're still allowed to get one, don't mention you used an aftermarket cooler. It's possible that it's overheating, or even just overheated once and damaged the video memory.

no, not using vista or even heard of dreamscene.

I had this exact same issue a couple months ago in Lineage.. Eventually the artifacts got so bad, the whole screen would fill with a rainbow of polygons at certain camera angles. Got the same effect in Oblivion.. shrubs would show that arifact like in your screenshot and shoot up into the sky.

I was using an EVGA 7900GT, purchased I believe in May of last year. I RMA'd it and they sent me a 7950GT 256 MB as well. I think that replaced the 7900's.

same card, XFX 7900GT see similar artifacting...said screw warranty/RMA whatever too much hassle..

got a1950 pro and i only see rare flashes of textures in this manner where as before i had tons of plaid squares in place of textures and these line artifacts as in your pics.

So, I feel your pain but I just got a new card...
and btw the XFX are overclocked
