Hello all, i'm a new member here so welcome.

Basically I just got myself a PNY nvidia quadro NVS 280 AGP video card to replace my matrox G550.
As you might know this card is connected with a LFH cable (dms-59) with either 2 VGA or 2 DVI outputs.
I got the cable with 2 DVI outputs.

Problem is that, nothing appears on either of my 2 monitors (i have a crt + LCD), even at boot time. The monitor is just waiting for a video signal... So now the problem is, I can't tell whether the problem is the video card or the cable. Btw the card does get hot (within normal range i presume), so it's working somehow.

Any way to tell which is defective? Or does anyone have any suggestion?

thanks
marc

Well, I would say that if the card gets hot, the card is theoretically working. I would try a different adapter if you can get your hands on 1, and at least check for bent pins as to the connector.

hi Big Lar, thanks for the reply.
I've checked the pins, they seem perfect. I guess I'll have to get myself another cable.

You're trying to hook up a DVI cable to a CRT?

It sounds to me like the cable is the issue here. Do you have any pics of the back of the card? I've never heard of a configuration like this.

hehe no...
this is the card: http://www.pny.com/products/quadro/nvs/280Nvsagp.asp

Adapter:

basically i hook up the LFH cable to the video card. Then one output of that cable hooks up to my LCD using DVI. And on the other output of the cable I put the VGA-DVI adapter and plug it in my CRT.

Haha ok yes I understand now. :)

Does your computer post and boot w/ the graphics card installed?

You could always try putting a PCI videocard in there while leaving the Quadro plugged in so you can boot into Windows and see if the card shows up in device manager.

Right, but does your computer "beep" like it normally does a few seconds after you turn it on? Does your hard drive appear to be loading Windows?
