problem with usb 2.0 adapter

i have an abit socket a with onboard raid, forgive my ignorence for not remembering this item number, but when i try to install in intek21 4 port usb 2.0 adapter, the os, win2k, wont boot. when i remove the adapter, it will post again. any suggestions?

other specs: voodoo 3500 tv out vid card, 2 pci scsi cards i. adaptec 2940 ii. adaptec 3240, sound blaster live sound card, networking card.
