My new system was working perfectly fine, and then I decided to install Intel's Application Accelerator 2.0 .. well upon restart as suggested by the program, I got a blue screen, and a memory dump. I proceeded to restart in safe mode, and still got that blue screen. I then tried using Recovery Console, and was prompted to enter my Administrator password .. of which I know what it is .. but did not accept it at all. In a last ditch effort to save my files, I installed a new install of WinXP side by side with the version unable to start. However, after installing WinXP, I realized that I had previously selected the encryption option for NTFS and was unable to access my files. I then proceeded to use the WinXP setup and chose instead to reinstall over the original WinXP that can't start. After a million error messages and patching, and a bunch of restarts, I finally fixed my original WinXP to start up and everything to work.
However, one problem remains ... Everytime I shut down, I receive an error message saying that UPS.exe has performed an illegal system call (or something like that) and will be closed ... I am running on a UPS right now.. I am up to date on all patches ...
Is there some way to determine if all my system files are okay? (I've already used sfc (system file checker) ... or will extracting UPS.exe from the install CD and copying it back to my computer work...
I am confused .. has anyone else had this problem ... My system isn't a clean install ... its WinXP installed on top of a corrupted version ... but I think that wouldn't matter?
I am running .. P4 2Ghz, 256 RDRAM, winxp professional, CyberPower 325L UPS connected via serial port ...
Thanks!
I think this problem might have been addressed in the www.windowsupdate.com site .. under "Computer Fails when connected to a UPS" ... but when I go to www.windowsupdate.com .. it says I already patched it ...
Is there someway to force the reinstallation of patches?!?
