So i downloaded the newest official release drivers for my GeForce 6800. I installed them cleanly, with no issues. Then, today, i wanted to see what would happen when i put the refresh rate at 150hz. Stupid iea I know, but I did this, and everything dissapperead. I could see the desktop image, and the mouse, but there was no start menu, and no windows could be opened.
So I system restored it to two days ago, unsuspecting that the problem was due to the drivers, because I had used them for two days without issue, and when I did this, everything worked, and the setup screen for the drivers came up again. I did everything as I did the first time, and the problem re-occurred. So I re-system restored it, and canceled the driver installation.
Now, the problem is this(Ithink) : For some reason, my computer thinks there are two monitors. Normally, when you push the mouse up against the edge of the monitor, it can't go any further, but on mine, the first time I set up the new drivers, when you pushed the mouse against the right-most boundary, it moved offf the screen. When the problem occurred, it became the left most boundary that was unguarded, and when i moved the mouse off the screen, I could drag icons from the other side, to this side. So I think that when I put the refresh rate to 150hz, the videocard reverted to the second display, which is the only one the could work.
So now, I am stuck with the old drivers, because I dont know how to tell my computer that there is only one monitor. I wouldn't mind this, except the new driver's came with better resolutions, and I preferred those.
So, does anyone have any idea what I am talking about at this point?
