I have this drive as master on the secondary channel by itself. I am running windows 98SE. On the primary channel, I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM (slave) with the HD master. The firmware is 2.0B. I installed the Easy CD-creator software that came with this retail drive along with an updater that was on a floppy.

My problem is the following:

When I go to use the Adaptec software, it recognizes the source drive but does not recognize the RW. The Teac works because I have been using it to read CD's and in device manager, it is recognized.

I will do the following: 1. Update with firmware 2.0D 2. Switch Teac to slave.

Is there anything else I should consider if those tweaks above don't fix the problem?

thanks

1) Check to see if you have ASPI
2) Try Nero, CloneCD etc to see if same results
3) Try different configuration:
- Primary channel: DVD-rom(master); Teac(slave)

4) Update to latest firmware 2.0D

Try updating the Adaptec SW. In the last year I had to update 3 times (I upgraded my burners 3 times this year). Each update supports more drives.

Have been to Roxio and have downloaded the 4.03a to update my 4.02. Will let you know how it works out.

Thanks!

Updated to EZ 4.03a and firmware 2.0D. Now works like a charm! This RW makes me get religious!

I have the Imation 12x10x32. I've determined that this drive is the same as the TEAC W512EB (they both had a similar facade, exactly the same specs...and the final giveaway was the TEAC logo on the sticker on the drive). I've been having problems with this drive, particularly with recording audio. It works flawlessly for recording data, but always manages to crash my computer when burning audio. I have similar problems when I try it on a different system.

For whatever reasons, I want to try updating the firmware, but unfortunately, Imation barely acknowledges the existence of this drive, since they have nothing to do with its manufacturing. So the next logical step would be to flash it with a TEAC firmware right? Assuming that the two drives are the same, the firmware revision should work. But can I just go ahead and flash it with the latest TEAC 2.0D version or do I have to follow some other protocol?
For instance, on the TEAC page, it says

<< Note that this program cannot be used for the CD-W512EB with a firmware revision other than 2.0A/B/C. >>

The firmware for the Imation drive is 2.4B (perhaps this is similar to TEAC version 2.0B?).

Any suggestions?

Why wouldn't you put the Burner as secondary master and CDROM as secondary slave? I thought that was what most Burner companies recommended.

Actually, ............. the Teac manual for the CDW512E B 02 "strongly recommends that you connect the CD-RW drive as a slave drive to the same cable that currently hosts your CD-Rom/DVD drive."

"Set the jumper on the rear panel of the CD-RW drive to Slave."
