Problem with System Works 2002 in XP

I have Norton System Works 2002 Pro and Win XP pro and after I downloaded the latest Anti-virus live update I get an error at boot. It says:

"The procedure entry point ?SRStopRedirect@@YAKK@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library SymRedir.dll"

I have no idea what this is for but I get it at every rebot and now e-mail scaning does not work. Everything else seems fine.
Thinking I had PC problems I did a complete clean install on a new Hard Drive and again. right after the live update, I got the same error. This is a bug inherant in XP which I doubt and most likely something with Norton, also I cannot find the file SumRedir.dll, could it be that it was somehow deleted in the update?

I would appreciate any help with this or at help me get rid of the error message at every reboot as I can live without e-mail scaning but I can't stand this error allready.

Thanks

I'm experiencing the EXACT SAME THING right now. In fact, I'm about to reboot after running the Live Update! I did have NSW working on XP before I restaged, but it's being bitchy now. Stay tuned....

The first time I installed the latest Norton updates, I had already installed all the XP updates. When I did the clean install, I installed windows and then SystemWorks and then ran LiveUpdate. After the restart the same problem occured. On the preveous Windows install I tried uninstaling and reinstaling Antivirus and then all of system works but the same error poped up in the process and the uninstall wizard crashed. The uninstall completed anyway but reinstaling had no effect. I have a feeling that the update may have deleted the SumRedir.dll file as I can't fing it on my system anywere. As the e-mail protection is the only thing effected, I am guessing that this file is in a way responsible for redirecting the files maybe though a Norton anti-virus server or something as I know that Antivirus 2001 clearly routed e-mails through one of their servers which it turn caused delays so I dissabled that option. 2002 was working perfectly until this happenned. Anybody know the details of this dll or maybe have a copy we might be able to use.

Thanks

The Norton site already has several entries regarding this problem and I just added another one. Hopefully symatec will get to the bottom of this and soon.

I'm still having the problem. The Norton site only seems to think this happens when you're using Internet Security or Personal Firewall with NAV.

I was trying to hustle into work, so I didn't have time to post this earlier:

In my searching for a fix last night, I came across some references to the SymRedir.dll file in the C:\Windows\system folder. I copied it to my desktop before rebooting and causing the error. A full search revealed that there was a 2nd copy of the DLL in the Windows\system32 folder. Checking the version numbers revealed that the copy in the system32 folder was a later version!

I tried a few combos of deleting and/or copying the DLL with no success before sacking out.:(

When I ran the LiveUpdate, one of the items for update was called "something Redirector", so it appears that updating it is breaking it. I haven't tried not DLing it, but what's the point of an update process that FUBARs the product?

I had this same problem, here is what Symantec said to do.

Click me if you are horny

[EDIT]
Forgot to tell you that this fixed my problem. Just uninstalled and rebooted. The reinstalled and ran live update again. Works great now.

I run neither of these products and yet I had the same error as a few people. But the above link should take care of your error message.

I've never had a problem with Norton SW under WinXP, but then again I only install the Utilties and Anti-Virus programs. I don't bother with CleanSweep.

The fix did not work. First of all, uninstall failed as the same error poped up then and crashed the uninstaller, and install also had problems. Secondly I do not have NPF or NIS so I should not have this problem for that reason.

This problem is horable and getting worse. I use autologon so I don't enter my pasword every time at boot as XP is apsolute crap with most features not working if you don't have a logon password. And now every other reboot the eror apears when I still can see the blue welcome screen and it terminates the logon, I cannot restat, log off, or do apsolutely anything but to do a hard reset. I noticed that if the scandisk runs at rebot then it will log on normaly but still have the error.

At the very least I need to stop this part from loading at all and not get the error because I am sure that hard resets every time will kill my system.

Thanks

I got the same error also. I uninstall my personal firewall and reinstall NAV. Still doing the same thing. I thing there is something wrong with NAV 2002. I'll wait until it's solved...

edit: I do not use Norton Personal Firewall. I use Tiny Personal Firewall and they didn't say anything how to fix it with Tiny installed on our system.

:|:|:|:|:|THIS IS ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!:|:|:|:|:|

I think a virus would do LESS damage than this crap!!! Gawd! TWICE in two weeks, I've had sh*tty software FUBAR my system!!! WTF is going on?!? Is this EA-AV?!?

I can't uninstall it because it insists that Norton programs are still running (nevermind that it never gave this error before) and they REFUSE to be killed off in Task Manager or thru the Services menu.

I found manual uninstall instructions at Symantec and they involve a LOT of tedious Registry editing (took me nearly a half-hour) and it STILL didn't work!:| Now, when I try to reinstall, I get an Error 1721 and then it proceeds, before repeatedly asking for Disk One. (Huh?)

Lovely. TWO DAYS (actually one) into a fresh install of WinXP and it's f*cked beyond belief!!! What kills me is that I didn't have ANY problems with this before. WTF?!?

Well, it's a damn good thing that I'd made an image of my base install, with the drivers and patches in, earlier that day, cuz I just restored my system in 15 minutes, what would've taken 90-120 minutes from scratch. Thanks Drive Image!

DefRef, if the problem comes back, drop me a note directly and I'll see what other information I can get from the consumer team at work (Symantec).

I just reinstalled it and when it rebooted, it brought up the Registration Wizard and nonsense. At the end, this was the screen I got:

Finish

Norton SystemWorks 2002 has been installed successfully!

Reinsert the Norton SystemWorks 2002 CD to install UNNAMED APPLICATION and Process Viewer.

(What the heck is THAT?!?)

The SymRedir.dll in the Windows\system32 folder was version 4.0.0.50 and it's the Symantec Redirector Interface. (If I recall right, the 2nd one, in the Windows\system folder was 4.0.0.62 or 67.)

Running LiveUpdate wants to bring down 4 updates, totalling 4172 KB:
Update Symantec Redirector
Update Norton CleanSweep 2002
Update Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions
Update LiveReg

Unchecking the Redirector brings the size down to 3838.3 KB and since it appears that that is the culprit, I HAVEN'T DLed that part. Now I'm about to reboot after the other three components loaded. Stay tuned.

UPDATE:
It rebooted fine, no errors. Hmmm....smells like the redirector is the culprit. Anyone else want to try this course of action?

update:

this time I only install norton anti virus and I still get the same error. I think symantec have problem with their redirect file. that's the one that causes the problem. It has nothing to do with firewall or any other file or application at all.

edit: I just try it on my Win 2k box and it's giving the same problem. It's official that the redirector is the issue. Don't download it.....

Guys, please don't bite my head off for asking, this is actually a legitimate question and not intended to pass the blame or be flame bait for others. Are the versions your installing warez versions? Apparently there are some warez versions floating around which are actually very late beta's, not what we actually shipped. We've only seen, according to those I talked to today, this problem when someone had the beta versions of the SymRedir components installed. The most likely way to get into this situation then was to a) be one of our beta testers or b) have the warez versions.

Don't worry, I won't send the software police after in this case ;), but if this isn't the situation I do want to help track this down. Would one of you running XP be willing to let one of the consumer group developers call you and then remote desktop in and see the machine state and resolve what is happening?

Suddenly, the room got very quiet and people started looking at the floor and clearing their throats while trying to avoid eye contact...:D

After BUYING NSW 1, 1.1, 2.0, 2000 & 2K1, I got p*ssed that Norton was forcing me to cough up another chunk of change because of 2K1's NON-XP support (it's just an update of Win2K, darnit!) and accepted a copy from a co-worker. (Wonder where he got his from? Better let him know.) Odd that it worked before and that the Update caused the mismatch now and not in the last month.

OK kids, time to head over here and pick up an OEM copy for ~$20 shipped. I just noticed that I got NAV 2K2 and Ghost 2K2 on the 8-in-1 bonus pack that came with my Dragon+ and since Norton stripped out so many of the tools that are in the Win9x install of Utilities (RegEdit, File Compare, BENCHMARKING:|), I can ditch this w4r3z sh*t and get on the side of the angels AND install just what I actually use, the AV part.

Thanks a lot, Bill, for helping run this down for us. (You're not a cop, right?;))

as for what I do to get this thing to work, I have no clue but one thing for sure, install Norton first then install the firewall app.

btw: mine is Norton 2002 BestBuy version :)
