Every time that I taste something with Splenda in it, I can't taste anything sweet after that first bite. Even with real sugar.
Any one else have this problem or is it just me?

Splenda is like 600x sweeter than normal sugar. Which is why they use so little of it.

But yeah, it overpowers less sweet stuff.

Splenda has an awkward aftertaste. I tried the Coke with Splenda, and while it tasted fine (I'm used to Diet Coke and Coke Zero), it left that lingering taste in my mouth that I've experienced when attempting to bake with Splenda. In regard to baking with Splenda, I would definitely recommend something more like a mixture of half sugar and half Splenda. It just lacks the consistency and stuff comes out looking weird. :p

My point was that I cannot taste the splenda after having one bite and I could bite into raw sugar and not taste a thing.

After baking low carb cheesecake a few times with liquid splenda. If you let what you bake rest a day the after taste pretty much goes away.

I suppose it really depends on how much Splenda you had before trying something else.

If a normal, human amount, then I agree with ISAslot; you're broken. You'll probably die soon.

Can we have your stuff?

Problem I have with splenda is it tastes like shit. It's not sweet at all, most definitely doesn't taste like sugar, and has a disgusting aftertaste. Not nearly as bad as aspartame, but still not palatable at all.

Ze Splenda, IT BURNSSSS.

No really, that shit makes my throat burn, or feel funny, or I dunno. Avoid at all costs. I don't have a problem with sugar. Why pay for food if you didn't want calories?

People complain about food cost, and then buy food with no calories... Me no understand.

Ya wtf is that aftertaste. I experience it as a sensation more than a taste. Man I hate splenda.

This reminds me of a product I had to help make an Ad for back in my editing days. This company came up with a "diet mint" that would cover the sweet receptors on your tongue for about 20-30 minutes, resulting in you tasting everything but sweet. The effect was VERY unsettling, snicker bars felt like eating mud and rocks, hard candy was just glass, and sugar felt like sand in your mouth!

They brought in a whole trash bag full of the mints to the editing room for us to try, and after trying them us interns just looked at the bag and had the same thought...

"This would make an AWESOME prank!"

And so we stuffed our pockets with as many mints at we could and spent weeks pranking everyone we knew.

Can't remember the name of the mints, but I'm sure they caused cancer or something.

EDIT: HA! Sugarest! Can't find the old Ad, but did find a poor soul testing it out: http://vimeo.com/384043

Try Truvia. It's about as close to a no-aftertaste sweetener that I've found.

My mom is one of those people that goes all about the latest "nutritional fad", and she went on and on about Stevia and how it's so much better than those others. Well, I saw that Target had the Stevia-based soda on sale called Zevia. I bought the normal cola, and my god, it is TERRIBLE. It has the worst taste I've ever tasted! D:

I'll give it a shot next time I bake.

I can be having cake and before I taste the next bite I can't taste any sweetness at all.
With sugar, without any Splenda interference I can taste a spoonfull then another, with Splenda I am completely numb to the second one.
