I need help quickly! I just did a clean install of SP2 (slipstreamed onto Win XP Pro Corporate) for testing purposes on my laptop. Well, right away I noticed a GLARING problem. When I went to install device drivers, I noticed Windows would pop up dialog boxes saying 'unable to locate the following file' and asking for me to locate it.
Turns out the files it was looking for were Windows' own drivers!! Apparently they're the standard drivers located in driver.cab and sp2.cab, which I found in 'c:\windows\driver cache\i386'. These drivers are required whenever you hook up any USB mouse (HID input driver) and any bluetooth adapters (standard MS bluetooth enumerator). For whatever reason, Windows Plug and Play doesn't check its driver index and locate the files within Driver Cache.
How do I fix this? I don't want to have to do a reinstall...it sounds like this should be a simple registry fix. I checked the keys where drivercache and sourcepath are defined but didn't know what to look for.
