problem with sound, help!

i have a pretty big problem on my hands, when i listen to mp3's, play games, like counter-strike, or even listen to cd's, the sound is all distorted and sounds wierd.
I just installed win98, after getting rid of win2k, and then this started.win2k had no problems with it. it's built into my amptron k7-m807 mobo.
any ideas?
 
u have to explain "sounds wierd" more. one of the problems i always ran into with sound being of low quality is if the volume in the computer is turned to max, even if your speakers are low, it can sound like crap.
 
they have a very wierd echo to them, like it's wavy, when i play music, you can barely hear the lyrics, while instruments, like drums, sound better, but still like crap. in games, like cs, i shoot a gun, and the sound is like a second late, and of very low quality. everything is liike that, any ideas?
