i have checked as many posts as 1 can in 12 hrs and finally wanted to ask for specific help. I have the dp965lt intel mother board and have downloaded the f6 utility and have it on a floppy. also the bios was updated to the most updated version and everytime i start it and try to load windows with the f6 utility i get the stop: 0x0000007b error. i have tested this with all different settings on the bios for drive configuration with legacy, native-ide, native-ahci.

the specs of the system i am trying to get to install windows:
430 W coolermaster psu
intel dp965lt mobo
c2d e6300 conroe cpu
1gb pny optima pc2-5300 dual channel ram
80gb seagate barracuda SATA
nvidia 7600gt pci-e
sb live! 5.1 digital pci
benq dvd-rw
floppy drive

please anything anyone can offer as help feel free to post, but i really want to get this running soon and the only thing holding me back is the windows install problem with the sata/raid controller.

btw on the intel site it says if in ide mode on sata the f6 utility is not needed, but i tried this forever and everytime the blue stop screen came up.

Have you tried running tests on your memory? Try installing Windows with the least amount of components connected. Just have your hard drive, CD-Rom drive, memory, processor and video card. Everything else, disconnect it - including all USB devices (if possible use PS2 keyboard/mouse). Then try the Windows installation again.

Welcome to the Forums :)

1) how far along in Windows Setup do you get the blue stop screen? Does it happen at the same amount of progress every time? Is there additional info like INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE or anything?

2) have you tried installing Windows without the SB Live in there yet?

3) as a fact-finding step, have you tried installing Windows onto a non-SATA drive with this system? If so, did that work?

4) is the SATA drive brand-new, never used before?

the sata drive is brand new and it gets to the point where its trying to start windows after going through the initial setup of loading the drivers for the components. then as it is loading windows it gets to the stop screen. yes i have tried without the soundblaster card...and the ram is working i believe because in bios it recognizes it as dual channel 1024mb and when i go to the chipset it tells me the timings on it 5-5-5-15 (yes i know they are high, but this is still a HUGE upgrade from my system that died on me 3 weeks ago)

the bios also identifies the sata drive however if i start my pc without the sata drive or any hard drive then the same error occurs at that point of the windows install, which to me says that the sata isnt recognized by windows to load on so windows has no place to load...and gives a blue screen stop error 0x0000007b if needed i can give the remaining error details that follow the 0x0000007b, but after all my research today i am confident it is a conflict with windows/the bios/the sata drive (bios was listed because i still dont know what settings to have it on so it is currently on default with the newest bios)

edit: i only have 1 thing plugged on the ide cable and can add an ide hard drive, but when i did this earlier it didnt recognize the hard drive....and i have to keep the dvd-rw hooked up to install windows.

also if this can help make this work i have an external hard drive encloser with a 160gb ide hd

Try these steps in this order:

1) rant and throw stuff, then have a lie down :D

2) go into the BIOS and set the SATA for native IDE mode

3) now start Windows Setup from your Windows CD. When Windows Setup shows the partitions on the hard drive, delete all the partitions on the hard drive, then press the F3 key twice to EXIT from Windows Setup.

4) begin Windows Setup from your Windows CD a second time. Don't give it the F6 drivers blah blah, since you're in native IDE mode and should not need them. Create a partition, quick-format it in NTFS, and carry on.

Does Windows Setup work now? If not, repeat Step 1 and then post what happened, along with the rest of the error message.

Make sure the keyboard is in the proper PS/2 port, since they're function-specific. Green = mouse, purple = keyboard.

yeah its in the purple one but i had only a green adapter ill just get my ollddddd keyboard if i can find it that is ps2 only, btw i dont see partitions on my hard drive when windows setup comes up it just goes straight into starting the drivers then when it goes to start windows it gives me that message. this harddrive is new and was never partitioned because i have no other mobo thats sata compatible to create a partition with

edit: keyboard powers on momentarily then goes down imma put it back in the usb port unless its for sure that it can cause a problem...my old kb turned out to be usb also instead of ps2

f3 does nothing to exit the windows install

A request: can you please punctuate your sentences a bit more? :D You're going to make my brain explode if you keep that up!

Ok, does the motherboard's BIOS itself recognize the hard drive as being connected? That's a prerequisite for Windows to be able to see it during Windows Setup.

Sorry it is 3 am here, so I was more focused on finally getting my PC up and running. Yes, the BIOS recognizes it as ST3808110AS.

Oh, and
f3 does nothing to exit the windows install
If your keyboard has a F-lock button that makes the F-keys into F-keys that actually work, you got to hit that first.

No, the function keys are separate and work to trigger f2 and f6 just fine when needed for BIOS or Windows install, just f3 does nothing when Windows is setting up. The CD I am using is a copy of Windows XP Pro Enterprise SP2 if this can effect it?

I'm going to look through the owner's manual for your motherboard for a couple minutes. In the meantime, check the jumper block on the rear of your ST3808110AS. There are four pins in a recessed hole. Do they have a jumper cap on two of the pins, or no jumper cap?

There is no jumper on the rear of the SATA drive atm. Also should I have VT and XD enabled in the BIOS or disabled default has it disabled and enabled respectively, despite the support for VT on the E6300.

I don't know for sure, because Intel's downloadable manual sucks. It has way too much of the info no one needs, and none of the stuff that would actually help :frown: such as a guide to the BIOS menus that I can use to steer you around. Should've bought an Asus.

/rant

At this point, I would reset the CMOS, switch the SATA controller to native IDE mode, and give it one more try without any F6 stuff. If the F3 key won't let you out of Windows Setup, just hit the Reset button on the case as a substitute. The idea is to clear out any confusion that Windows Setup might be carrying around as a result of your previous attempts, so try my 4-step thing.

Gotta go to bed, good luck :moon:

thanks for the help--today when intel tech support opened I called them and it appears the module on the computer is dead. The 2 working IDE hard drives aren't even detected by the motherboard when plugged in the master slot with the dvd rom in the slave. Yay for my luck =/
