Problem with Russ's proxy after switching to DHCP...

Yesterday my @Home service switched from static IP to DHCP, and I have to use DHCP in order for the service to work... I have been using Russ's RC5 proxy for a couple of weeks now, but yesterday after I switch, all the blocks flushed to the proxy did not get added to my usual hostname...

I flushed around 600 blocks yesterday, and it doesnt get added to the hostname I had before...

Does that mean switching to DHCP changed my hostname and I cannot use my old hostname at Russ's proxy again? I was cracking so hard and finally reached 18th place.... :(

BCYL,

If I understood how Russ' script works correctly it took one ip (or a range) and substituted that with a user/host name... if yours has changed you might have to start over :( Hopefully I'm wrong tho' and you can get back to racing at The Cube's pproxy

With love and respect your fellow TA member

BCYL,

It sounds like you have switched from static to dynamic. This is not a problem, if you can point me to your "before" hostname address, and the "current" one.

Once I have this info, I can check the rc5-dns.cache file, find out the IP range that you are coming from dynamically, and add this range to the script that auto-updates and consolidates the page twice daily.

This is what I'm doing with Denis since he is also dynamic.

EDIT: Please note, though, that if we have others who are flushing from an IP range with the same first three octets, I won't be able to do this as it would lump their blocks and yours together.

Hey Russ:

Thanks a million for doing this! I would really hate to start over...

my old hostname is cr*-a.rchmd*.bc.wave.home.com, currently sitting at #20 (dropped a space already without flushing for 1 day)...

But I dont know what my current hostname is... I am using Coyote Linux to share the connection, and it doesnt display any info about which hostname I am on...

However, it should be something ending with rchmd1.bc.wave.home.com...

Yesterday I flushed around 600 blocks... and I havent flush any today...

Is there a way I can find out my hostname?

Again, thanks a million for doing this Russ!

Send me an eMail, and I'll grab the IP address from the headers.

Russ,

Do I have to use @Home's mail server? or will something like Yahoo Mail be fine?

Yahoo masks the IP of origin, so it will have to come from your @home address.

Send yourself an email if you're worried about keeping your email address private. Russ hasn't subscribed me to more than 3 or 4 pron mailing lists since I emailed him.

<just kidding>

<not kidding about the email yourself and grap the IP address part>

BCYL,

Got your mail and, in case @home is having their infamous mail server problems, here's the response I sent to you.:)

If you look on the second page of the By Host section, you will see 24.76.30.*. This is you. You actually flushed over a thousand blocks yesterday.:)

I will consolidate the two in to a new name: BCYL, and it should show up in about 40 minutes or so.

I'm going to do a manual edit on this one, rather then adding it to the script for right now. I want to get an idea of the address range you'll be coming from before automating it to avoid the possibility of merging blocks from two members. So, if you flush and it doesn't show up under BCYL, don't fret as I'll be monitoring and making changes as needed.

Yea, stupid @home informed me that i had to switch to DHCP. Probably so the moron tech support can read 1 script instead of 2. I continue to be assigned the same IP and I am convined that if I put in the static info it would be all the same.

Looks like I will be having same problem soon and will need similar help, but now I will have the added problem with the pproxy, anyone had experience with this setup yet, I have two static IP's at the moment from sh!t home. Got mail yesterday that they will be screwing around with my setup.

Oh here I am Russ... ci*-a.ashvil*.nc.home.com #11 presently
and here is my second machine before I started pproxy,is there anyway you can consolidate this one since I am no longer using it.
ci*-b.ashvil*.nc.home.com #53 presently

RichieZZZZ:

I initially thought the same too, thinking I can just keep using my static IP info and it will still work... they e-mailed me a couple of times telling me to switch, and I just ignored them...

then 2 days ago @Home service just stopped working... I initially thought it was a tech failure, so didnt really paid attention... but then the service was down the whole day, and my sister got impatient and called @Home support... They told her and we have to switch to using DHCP in order to get the service back up... As soon as I switch to DHCP, the service was back up again... So I guess for me keeping the static IP info is not an option...

cpars,

I'll get yours taken care of a little later today.

For those of you that are going thru this change, I'd guess that, even though you're now dynamic, the IP won't change that frequently. Usually with broadband, the lease is a couple weeks, or even 21 days. Not like dialup, where it changes constantly.

Yea, I see. Looks like 2500+ a day..

I only have a TBird 1.2GHz and since I play games and do other things, it cuts me down to around 900-1100 a day.
