The message in the device manager is:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Any ideas on what to do? i've tried a number of things, but maybe there is a quick fix i don't know about???

OS? AGP or PCI card? Other installed cards? Sounds like an IRQ conflict.

Did you disable that in the bios? Install the new card, then disable the onboard card in the bios. Boot into winXP.

we disabled the onboard in both the device manager and the bios. installed the new card. and we get the message that i posted in the first post.

we also get a message from the ATI control panel program that says the ATI driver is not working properly or not installed. it also says that it is going to close the ati control panel because of it. we did in fact install the driver from the disk, and have tried updating the driver.

I'll be back in a couple minutes. we are going to try uninstalling everything ATI and reinstalling the card.

still can't get it working. we are pretty convinced it is a motherboard compatibility problem.
