problem with onboard sound

Hi,

I've recently bought an Abit AA8 duramax motherboard. However, after installing the Realtek drivers (drivers form Abit's CD) for the onboard sound (no PCI sound card), Windows still cannot detect a sound device and as a result, there is no sound. I went to Sound and Audio Devices at the Control Panel to check if any sound device has been detected, but there is no default device for Sound playback & Sound recording.
It seems that the sound driver has not been installed correctly. After completing the installation and rebooting, I receive a message : "Warning : Microsoft Bus driver should be loaded in your system before installing Realtek HD Audio driver!" What does this message mean?

I've also installed another Realtek's drive from the Internet, but I have the same problem.
Could someone help me?

Is the device enabled in the BIOS? (It is by default so if you haven't changed anything it still should be)
Did you load the Intel Chipset Info Utility before loading the audio drivers?
Does device manager list either the Realtek device with a problem icon or just as unknown device?

The device is enabled in the BIOS.
I reinstalled the Intel chipset software Installaation Utility and then reinstalled the audio drivers but the problem remains the same.
Device manager does not list the Realtek device and there isn't any problem icon. Seems like an unknown device to Windows.

So XP lists an Unknown Device in Device Manager but does not list a RealTek device with problems <after> installing drivers?

Did U try selecting the unknown device in device manager and using the update driver wizard?

This is what Device Manager has in section "Sound, Video and Game controllers":
- Audio codecs
- Legacy Audio Drivers
- Legacy Video Capture Devices
- Media Control Devices
- Video Codecs
- Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device

However, no Audio Device is detected...Shouln't it also have something like Realtek drivers?

Did you install the Motherboard drivers beforehand? If not, I would do that before anything else.

You should have an entry under Sound Video and Game controllers for the RealTek hardware

Do you have any unknown devices listed?????

I' installed the motherboard drivers before installing the sound drivers.
I expected to find an entry under Sound Video and Game controllers but nothing is listed there.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem , but when I checked the device manager I found an entry named "PCI device" with a problem icon under "Other devices". I tried to use the update driver wizard for this entry but Windows could not detect any driver for this device. But I have an onboard sound and not a PCI sound card...

If I were you, I'd go back into Device Manager and uninstall the unknown PCI device, then reboot and see if Windows redetects it and maybe finds drivers.

I uninstalled the PCI device but the problem was not solved.
Maybe I should check for some audio drivers in the Internet again...

I rebooted, Windows redetected the unknown device (named PCI device again), but couldn''t find any driver for this device.

No, I didn't.

I downloaded the new Intel chipset drivers from Abit's web site, but nothing happened.
I'm going to download Realtek's new drivers for ACL880 (my onboard sound) and see if the problem is solved.

Problem solved!!!

I downloaded a newer audio driver named "wdm_r109" from www.opendrivers.com and the problem was solved. Realtek High Definition Audio is now included Sound, Video and Game controllers section in the Device Manager. And there isn't any unknown PCI device anymore.
I still don't know why the driver that came with the motherboard's CD didn't work...
