Cannot read those correctly (maybe it's just my settings or something), why not just post what you are seeing?

I think it's your motherboard, not CPU. the CPU's fine with the 6x and 11x multiplier. It's your FSB that's screwed up, 100mhz instead of 200mhz default, or 300mhz that you can easily overclock to. What type of board do you haev?

Agreed. 200x11 = 2.2GHz (your rated speed). Your FSB is running in protected mode or something. As for going between 11x and 6x, thats speedstep (C1E) which is good for energy conservation. Find someone w/ your motherboard and hopefully they'll babystep you through how to get your FSB corrected.

It's the motherboard issue, I am not sure how it works, but check out the manual to see if there are any jumpers you have to find to set FSB. If not, look to see if there's a later BIOS on the manufacturer's website. The board jumpers and BIOS are the only places where you can set the FSB. What's the type of memory you're using?

Ram should be fine. What about the board, what did you run on it before? Pentium 4? What's the FSB it was doing at?

If not, then don't know what's the issue then, your board basically can't support the FSB that the E4500 is demanding. I'd say get a new board at this point.

It's a brand new board, i bought this couple days ago from tigerdirect...should i mess with the BIO's function for FSB?

We don't own your motherboard nor do we have your owners manual availible to us. We can only point you in the right direction. Read your manual even if you dont understand everything its talking about and keep an eye out for FSB/Base frequency/base clock. Maybe clearing your BIOS or setting up Defaults/Optimal Defaults will correct your problem. Maybe there is a jumper you can set on the motherboard. We cant tell you exactly what to do because we don't know.

On a side note, I owned a mach speed mobo once (ordered from TD as well) and it sucked, RMA'd it (SktA mobo, as i raised fsb it raised pci freq. as well). If you can RMA it, thats my best suggestion. TigerDirect is usually not the best place to shop, their price isnt always bad, in fact can usually be pretty good, but they charge an arm and a leg for shipping compared to other places. Newegg is overall usually the best deal, but pricegrabber can ensure you get the cheapest price.

OH my god.. I cannot believe NOBODY has figured out that its the motherboard feature to conserve power..

Geez..

It'll go up to max speed if you run a game or prime95

Test it now.

+1 to sutahz, we're just trying to help here, but we don't have any info that you can see yourself. Yes, you should start playing with BIOS function, the clue could be right there, but be careful and only make 1 adjustment at a time so you can pinpoint what may be issue.

xtwells, are you kidding or do you really know about this board? Board cannot switch FSB on the fly. Based on what I can tell, the E4500 is running fine, it goes up and down 6x and 11x multiplier just like it's designed to. The problem is the FSB where it's locked at 100mhz. Normally it's 200mhz, and should hit 300mhz or 400mhz if the board has capability.

**UPDATE**

I do'nt know waht i did, but in the bio's i raised the CPU voltage +.010 , and raised my CPU Core clock to 233mhz ( original 200mhz)......and this is what i get...

http://img295.imageshack.us/my...?image=59614329kt0.jpg

How can I overclock this sucker to 2.8ghz , and overclock my rams?

also...when do i increase CPU Voltage? i'm not so familiar with this

Went to the product page for the mobo and checked the supported CPU list. Does not show the E4500, but does show the E4400. Is the E4400 the same M0 stepping as the E4500...can't recall off the top of my head.

Checked for BIOS updates on their site and there are none for your board.

Downloaded the manual so I can offer some suggestions, plus I requested info at the end of the post which is needed in order to continue.

Suggestions:

1) Begin pg# 61 of manual - CPU Feature
a) Disable C1E and Virtualization
b) Could not find where to disable Speedstep, but do so if you can find it. May not be
an option on VIA chipset.

2) Begin pg# 85 of manual - Performance Booster Zone
a) DRAM Clock/Drive Strength - since your rams are DDR2-533, choose 266 (DDR533
or 1:1 memory ratio)
You might try out 333 (DDR667, which would be the equivalent of the4:5vider).
This is where you would be overclocking your rams (as per your question).
b) Leave DRAM timings at SPD for now, or if you wish, set to Manual and select loose
timings for now. It does appear that timing choices are limited, which is why I said to
go with the SPD setting. Do note the timings reported by SPD for future reference.

There appear to be some more choices, but the download manual I have stops at page #86. Here are some more options on that Performance Booster Zone that are not explained.

CPU Clock - it appears to default at 100MHz which would explain the low clocks you were showing. Look for a setting of 200MHz, if you haven't already. This might also be where you would increase it to reach your goal of 2.8GHz (255 x 11 multi or 280 x 10 multi).

Async PCIE Clk - What are your choices here...you want to be able to lock it at 100 if possible.

DDR Voltage - what are your choices. Leave at default (s/b 1.8v) for now, but if going with the DDR667 setting in DRAM Clock, then you might want to bump it up if instability is an issue (check memory with Memtest86+).

CPU Clock Ratio - Set manually to E4500's 11 default.

Setting FSB - Could not find (or overlooked) where you would increase it to reach your goal of 2.8GHz (255 x 11 multi or 280 x 10 multi). Saw it in the Software overclocking option called Warpspeeder, but not in BIOS. See if you can find it because it is usually better to do this stuff in BIOS.

Hope that helps some and I'll check back with you later, either today or tomorrow, depending on my schedule. I'm sure that others will be able to add to this, as well.

Good luck.

Is there a way to attach a pic to a post here?

Wanted to show the BIOS screen that I was referring to at the end of my previous post.

I've never seen a pic in the thread, just have to link to a place like photobarn or whatever is out there (after you've setup an acct and uploaded the pics you'd like to share)

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I usually hang out at OCF or XS, and attachements to your posts are an option on those forums.

I guess that I'm going to have to break down and register for an account at one of those pic hosting sites.

That's the one I'm most familiar with as its used by just about everyone else.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe that I did open/register for an account about 18-24 months ago but never used it. Got to follow up on that.

It's hard sometimes for old farts like me to change our way of doing things.
