Problem with new XP2400+ and 8KHA+ no power

I just purchased an XP2400+ from Newegg to install in my Epox 8kha+ that I have been running with a 1700 for a year and a half now, with ZERO problems

flashed the bios a week ago using the alt+F2 method, worked perfectly. Ran the system many times for many hours (I use it for a DAW) with again, no probs

SO, today my new processor comes...

drop that sucker in, and POOF

no power. System powers up for a split second and then shuts down.

I put the 1700 back in, just to test, and...same thing. Actually got it to fire up once, but then again, nothing!

Ive stripped it all the way down to the mobo, one stick of RAM (Mushkin basic green PC2100) and the vid card. Heck, even tried it minus the vid card...

I know this is a long shot, but ANY help would be greatly appreciated, as I need to get back to work! I should have known not to do this!:(

First of all, consult this guide and confirm that your heatsink is on in the correct direction and making flat contact with your CPU core. When a mobo shuts down almost immediately, that's usually because of a thermal-panic situation caused by lack of heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink, and the #1 reason is a heatsink that's on backwards. The #2 reason is probably people forgetting to peel the protective plastic off of the thermal patch (if their heatsink comes with one).

Welcome to the Forums, hope it all comes out in the wash for you :)

ok, Im glad no one else took the time to answer this, because I AM AN IDIOT SOMETIMES!

first, let me make an excuse: I have a broken lower right molar, and it HURTS. On top of that I just found out I have to move in a month, unexpectedly

SO, that said (Im distracted, ok?:)

I didnt do anything as stupid as putting the heatsink on wrong or forget to take the tape off, BUT

what I DID do, is:

I was turning the damn power switch on the back OFF, when I thought I was turning it ON.

Im gonna go crawl in a hole now, ok?

I think this tops ever single DOH Ive ever done (well, except when I spent an hour trying to find out why there was no sound coming out of my mixing board and it was UNPLUGGED)

so..chalk this up to a distracted state of mind. Ill get my coat then, ok?

THANK YOU for your quick response. mucho appreciado!
