Problem with New HD

i have an ABIT BE-6 motherboard running Windows 2000. I recently flashed my bios and installed a MAxtor 80GB, UDMA 133. I know the motherboard cannot handle the UDMA, but it's giving me problems with my sound. I have a Creative Labs Live! card and it doesn't want to recognize System sound. It only allows 2 speakers to play. All software that i installed with creative does not work as well. Any suggestions?

i did. i flashed the bios if that's what you mean by the VIA chip having hte latest drivers. but i don't understand how that affects my sound card. the system locks when i go into system folder and select sound then audio. it's like the drivers for the sound are conflicting or something but when i check IRQ's, nothing is wrong.

No this isn't a Via chipset motherboard , this is the BX chipset one of the first used by Abit (BX being the first).

greyhavns try moving your sound card to another pci slot on your motherboard , I would personally try moving it to the slot nearest your agp slot as I know the SBlive works well with your AGP card if you have one installed.

You won't have to re-install the drivers when moving the card .
