Problem with new hard drive

I just recently built myself a new PC and got a nice 200gb hard drive with it. The problem is my computer only says it's 135gb. I heard I needed to install SP1 so I did. That didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?

The Windows file system is 28 bit which limits the size of the hard disk to (about) 137 GB. I just installed a 250 GB WD hard drive for my uncle and had to use the supplied ATA133 controller with special drivers to get the full 250 GB in Windows.

I'm not sure if that's true or not in XP, but I know older bios revisions on motherboards may not work right one drives exceding 137GB

usually SP1 does fix that, look into getting a bios update. that PCI card should work too (since it has it's own mini bios) but you'd be better off, performance-wise, to put it on the mobo's IDE, and upgrade the mobo's bios.

Check the FAQS in the support section for the mfgr of your HD.

This is a known and oft encountered problem.

most likely mb bios limit . try checking the makers site for updates/ info on limits. an ATA add in card will eliminate the size problem but may have side effects (i.e. if it has the boot partion on it , and your using norton system works , i belive you'll have a problem using nortons speed disk ).
good luck
