Problem with new BIOS on P5B Deluxe

I just got a new system, put together by Directron.

I just updated the BIOS of my P5B Deluxe Wifi/AP to 0614, using ASUS Update (I don't have a floppy drive) and after having downloaded the BIOS from ASUS website. The installation seemed to be OK and I was asked to reboot my PC.

A few seconds after it started rebooting, I got the following message :
CMOS Checksum Bad
Overclocking failed ! Please enter set
Press F1 to run Setup
Press F2 to load default values and continue

I'm clearly not very knowledgeable in PCs but clearly does not understand that message and I could say that I haven't tried to overclock my system.

I went into the BIOS and the only thing that I could see was wrong (but I did not understand 90% of the BIOS) was that the BIOS was looking for a floppy drive that I don't have. I corrected that and everything seems OK but I may have missed something.

What do you think ?

That's standard after a BIOS flash. The BIOS doesn't recognize the settings uitil you go in and save the settings and restart. No worries here.
 
This sounds like his BIOS is corrupted and he got some kind of recovery procedure using a floppy to flash again.

I don't know how this works with the Asus, perhaps you could check your mobo manual and help him.

The OP might have to buy a floppy to do this or borrow one from a friend.

I had the same thing happen to me when I updated to the 614 BIOS. Push F2 and let it load settings as default. It will boot then. If you wanna OC then do that on the next reboot 🙂
 
It feels good to read that people who are far more knowledgeable about PCs are telling me this message was normal and nothing to be worried about...

I just got a reply from ASUS and it reads like this :

if it was updating your bios this this problem started you should downgrade you bios to the previous version before the flashing. you can do that with the directions below. if reflashing your bios dosent correct this it would be likely you have a motherboard problem which may require replacement. if this is the case call the number below

I'm very surprised as many people told me they got the same message when they upgraded the BIOS. All these mobos can't be defective...
 
the boards are not defective. thats just what they do after a bios flash.

asus tech support....FTL. They are probably reading off a script.
