problem with my switch

I had a netgear MR 814 and a linksys 10/100 switch. I connect the router and the switch via the switch's uplink port. The problem is on my rounter the port connected to the switch keep on blanking (indicate there is network activity), but the isn't any network activity at all (none of the computers on the connect to the switch is on).

What is wrong? Is this mean I can't use a switch with my router?

There probably isn't anything wrong. Are you having any problems?

My router will stop working about once per day, don't if this is related to my file downloading. I don't know if the switch is the cost of my porblem. The other thing is it really annoy me the router keep on blinking even there is nothing going on.
