I have a Compaq Presario 1700T Laptop...its about 2 years old and well just yesterday the flip up screen doesnt want to stay put like it used to....
if i put the screen past 90 degrees in relation to the base of the laptop it goes straight back
if i put the screen before 90 degrees it closes by itself....

how can i fix this problem...
i assume it has something to do with the hinges

TIA

You buy new hinges, a new LCD bezle assembly, or the entire new LCD with casing.

Back in the day (2000ish) the only "part" you could get from compaq was the entire LCD in the bezel with hinges

You can do the job yourself, at obviously just the cost of the parts.... look on Ebay for what you need.

Never worked on that model but the basic plan is:

Pop off the sticker/rubber pads over the LCD screws, take out the screws, remove/snap off LCD bezel

Pop off the keyboard bezel, keyboard, and hinge covers

Remove LCD assembly

Replace hinges

chances are really good that the nuts/screws only have to be tightented. I repair laptops, and this is a very common problem.

Try that, and you'll save a lot of $$$$

Good luck
