Here's the new system:

Athlon 1.33
Epox 8k7a
Pioneer 10x DVD
Iomega 12x10x32

When I tried to make a cd in Nero the program stopped and said ide/scsi error. I checked the drive and for some reason it is not in Ultra DMA mode, but in PIO Mode 4. I checked the drive using the VIA Ide Tool utility and it is not compatible with Ultra DMA modes. I believe this is the problem, can someone help me?

These two cd drives were transferred from my old system, so I know they work. The DVD is working fine, but the CDRW is not. Like I said I think it's because it's not in Ultra DMA mode.

Do you know if that burner is a rebadged Plextor? If it is, try putting a jumper over the two pins on the back of the drive (completely on the left), it makes the drive UDMA-Mode 2.

Yes I am using Win2k. I just tried changing the jumper and all that does is make it a master, but no luck in making it Ultra DMA mode 2. Any other suggestions?

make it master? Are you sure it's the right jumper? It's 2 pins alone on the left. (and you have to leave the master/slave jumper in its place while adding the other one)

Sugadaddy, you solved it! The power cables were blocking the left jumpers so I didn't see it at first. It now comes up Ultra DMA mode 2.

BUT!...I just tried to record a CD and it still gives me that blasted error IDE/SCSI error. I don't know what to do! Maybe I zapped the drive with some static when I transferred it or something.

I'm going to transfer the drive back to my old system and see if it works there. I'll keep you guys posted. I'm already tired, so I'll do this tomorrow morning, good night.

sounds like you don't have an ASPI layer installed. read this page & then get FORCEAspi from the doom link on the page.
good luck. :)

Did you switch from Win9X to Win2000? If you did go to Neros homepage and read up on it. I had the same problem and they said that you have to Install Nero 4 and upgrade to the newest version instead of installing the new one clean. This worked for me.

Thanks for all the help guys. It turns out that the software was the problem, so I am now using Adaptec software. Not sure why Nero isn't working because I was using it in my previous system which was Win2k too. I did go ahead and update the ASPI drivers, so I used all the suggestions given to me =)
