Problem with MX510

Lately I have noticed a really high pitched, barely audible ringing coming somewhere from my desk. At first I thought it was my monitor, but after I removed that, I could still hear it. I just noticed now that it's my MX510 mouse. I never noticed the high pitched ringing sound before, but it's there now; especially if I put my ear right up agains the bottom where the light is. Does ne1 else get the very high pitched sound from their mice?

If i put my MX510 up against my ear i hear a high pitch noise, other than that when in normal use i dont hear a thing..its silient

When I put my MX510 to my ear, I hear the ocean 😕

try switching it to another USB port, or use the PS2 adapter.

wow omg i just did that and i heard a high pitch as well. its silent other than that

For some reason the high pitched sound got a bit louder recently so that I can barely hear it when I'm sitting about 2 feet away. I tried switching to USB (I was using the PS2) and it does the same thing. ITS REALLY ANNOYING!!! Well, at least I know that other MX510 have the same sound, just not as loud.

I've written about this problem extensively. I have also complained to Logitech about it, who denied there was any problem. For details, please see my site covering all Logitech product bugs and flaws that I have experienced.

If you want the name and number of the manager at Logitech who told me there "is no such noise being emitted from these mice", let me know and I will provide it. I can't provide it on the site because I was threatened with legal action.

wow, I have a new logitech mx310 and never noticed any noise, just put it to my ear and there is the high pitched noise...cool! It's really quiet though.

I still love the mouse btw.

I told Logitech about the problem so they sent me a replacement. They new mouse has the high pitched noise, but I can only hear it when it's right next to my ear. It's no where as loud as the old one after it became defective.

Update for those concerned about this problem:

Today I received my Logitech MX518, in hopes that our customer support calls and general social discussions of this matter would induce Logitech to address the problem: Sadly, I must report that the MX518 emits the exact same high pitch noise as all of Logitech's previous models.

Those hoping to "upgrade" to the MX518 to address this issue will be disappointed.

I have also updated my Logitech product flaws page to reflect the MX518 suffering from the same problem.
