Hello all,
I gots me a weird problem. And I can't seem to find anything on google or I just don't know what words to use to find the solution. But I know you all know more then the internet anyways.

I got a problem with my Microsoft Outlook on a WinXp machine.
When I get an Email from someone, and in that Email, they throw a link in it, I try to click on it, it opens up a "locate link browser" window that looks like an explore window that asks me where the link is on my computer.

Is there a setting that can make it open a new browser window instead of asking me where on MY computer the link is? Ask away if you have questions, I really don't understand why it's not working like it used too.

BTW, I did do a Spyware and virus check before and after this happened, and nothing has been found.

Thanks again...

Tell you the truth, I never have, and as far as I know, I only have one. IE. I know, use something else, but I don't like the others. sorry.

Secondly, the wife needs IE. So sticking with one Web Browser makes it much simpler. I know so many people are high up on Firefox and that's great. But I won't.

Try doing this just to see if it will work:

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > "Set Program Access and Defaults" > Custom > Choose a default Web browser > check IE.

Go to desktop > access My Computer > go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types > look for both 'HTM' and 'HTML' for HTML Documents, and change to IE if it is not already set to that.

If that doesn't fix the problem, then I'm not sure but it sounds like it's not configured to know what an htm/html link should be opened up in. There may be a setting for Outlook itself, but I would expect it's not identifying the htm/html extension.

Outlook doesn't do anything special when it launches links. It just uses the built-in file association settings. So go to the place Mavrick mentioned. I think however that the "file type" you're interested in is "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol". This is right near the top of the list for me. Make sure that you have a program like IE specified there. But re-setting IE as your default browser should probably change these file tpes automatically though so try that first, then look at them and see if anything looks funny.

Thanks guys/gals? heh

The first thing that Mavrick007 said was right on the money. I haven't been using XP for very long so it's all real new where some of the settings are.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds good, I'm glad it helped. It's something that I've had to find out when troubleshooting some of our clients machines. Windows is funny sometimes.. even when you only have IE, it may not pick it up as "default".
