Problem with Linksys cable modem.

I purchased a Linksys cable modem BEFCMU10 ver. 2 with my current cable service in Champaign, IL. But I noiticed that I was experiencing intermitent drops and the only way to regain the connection was is to reset the modem. The connection usualy remained stable with low activity even if there was a download using all the bandwith, but it I go through to many pages to fast like I might on these and several other forum cites at once then the connection crashes.

I have had similar problems with and RCA modem before but nothing with Motorola modems.

I bought 3 other identical modems and each one had the same problem. Linksys said that it is most likely a compatability problem and offers no support for this.

The cable company gave me a temp modem a Motorola SB3100 which has no problems, but I cannot use it as they will charge a rental fee. I told them that multible modems have the same problem so it is some compatability issue with the service but they won't do anything about it.

I was wondering if anybody has symilar problems with Linksys or other brand modems and know of a way to remedy the problem in some way.

If there is no solution, does anybody maybee have a Motorola modem that is incompatable with your service but a Linksys modem works fine and maybee consider exchanging the modems.

Um... can't you just buy a Motorola modem? Or pay the cable company their $2 a month or whatever?

The renatal is $10 dollars. and unfortunately the Motorola Midem isn not exactly free either. I bough the modem when I signed up for the service and it is on the compatabile modem list.
Just buying a Motorola modem is counter productive as I pay twice as much to get a modem that does not work, which is why I am looking for possible fix or exchange.

well one solution:
Step 1.
find out where (other cities) that you cable modem works on their systems.
Step 2.
pack up and move to said city.

feasible and then you will not have to deal with returning your modem.

Better yet if I find out what cities work fine with my modem but have the same problems with Motorola modems (they do exist.) and if I simply exchange my modem with someone in that city then all will be happy.
