Problem with laptop display.

I've been having some issues with my display, it started this morning. Basically what happened is I minimized a full screen game, and the display reverted to 640x480 pixels and 4-bit-color. It usually is on 1440x900 and 32-bit-color. The screen just starts flashing between the actual screen and black. I tried restarting, and it just came up in all black and i couldnt access anything. I restarted again with safe mode and i did a spyware/adware scan and AV and then did a system restore and everything seemed to be ok. Unfortunately it happened again just now and I don't know what's wrong. My computer is a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop, 512ram/100gb/2.3 AMD 64 bit processor.

This sounds like a hardware problem with the LCD circuit. You're better off asking info from Compaq. Does this happen as soon as you boot the laptop? Or only after it has been running for awhile. Heat related?
