Problem with internet, anyone got a clue??

I built a new system over the weekend, and for some reason whenever I start my computer up and windows boots, I have problems getting onto the internet. For probably 5 minutes or so I get the "detecting proxy settings" message when I try going to Internet Explorer. Usually I end up doing the "create a new connection" thing and after a while I can use it. Once I've gotten past the first 5 mins though, it runs perfectly though, so I figure it's got to be a hardware, or (probably) software problem. I'll assume it's a software problem, although when I was running win2k, I had the same problem. Also, it doesn't matter if I use my PCI Lan card or the built in LAN on my mobo, I still have this problem.

Anyone got an idea??

Have you tried turning off Detect Proxy? Go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan, and uncheck the box. Hope it helps.

Are you on a LAN at home?

do you have a router?

Have you set up DHCP properly.....i.e if you have modem specifying DHCP IP addys and you also have your own settings then that can fubar it..

have you set it up as per your ISPs recommendations?

Do you have to specify MAC addresses to let you connect....

What connection u using ADSL/ Cable

It sounds to me like your computer is having problems finding the correct settings to log on to your network or net connection.....

Do you have the 2 llittle monitor in your task bar (beside clock) that show your connection status??

Have you actually been through the internet setup wizard to let it help you set up your connection properly??

hope some of this helps!

I'm on a T1 university connection. My connection worked fine before I put this new system on the network. I'm pretty sure that my connection is set up correctly. There's not 2 connections on this system. I'll throw Adaware on there, but I doubt that's the problem since I've had this problem the first time I turned my computer on after reformatting.

I'm not sure what DHCP and MAC are. I have been through the internet setup wizard...many many times.

Anyone got any other ideas??
