Problem with IE

Does anyone know how to stop IE from swapping back to a previous window every time something loads up in that window.
ie: You're using one window and you hit a link to open a new page and then it starts opening and you go back to your original page. But as each pic or bit of text loads in the new window it keeps coming to the fore. Not once but ever time something loads.

So the question is can that be stopped?

I forgot to mention this is happening in with IE 6 in Win XP
