Problem with IE and temporary internet files

If I go to click on a torrent link for example, and just click open instead of save as, I'll immediately afterwards get the error message "Cannot find file xxxx.torrent in yyyyyy" where y is my temporary internet files folder. Or, lets say I click on opening a .zip file off the net. When it finally finishes downloading, its empty, seeming to indicate it can't find it either.
Anyone know what's up with this or how to fix it?

try a new folder on your desktop to dl a zip file to see if it's there.

try emptying your temp inet files
