This message is divided into two parts: (1) a request for assistance
in resolving an issue with my printer and (2) if it cannot be fixed,
suggestions for a replacement printer
1. Problem with HP Deskjet 600
When I turn on the printer, the (printer's) power light blinks
continuously. The owner manual nor HP support website does not
document what this blinking means. If I press the power button, it
feeds a blank sheet of paper and switches off. The resume button does
nothing. I've tried replacing the ink cartridge to no effect. It does
this whether connected to the PC or not. I can't even print a
self-test page.
What's wrong? How can I fix it?
If more details are required, I will gladly post them.
OS: MS Windows 98 SE

2. Replacing the printer
I've had this Deskjet 600 for six years and have only a few extra
cartridges so if it needs to be replaced it can be. (I'd rather spend
money on a newer - faster - printer than servicing this one.) In this
time I have not been looking at printers so need assistance in
selecting one. It can be available at reputable online shops (Amazon,
CDW, etc) or B&M stores. Available physical stores are Best Buy,
MicroCenter, and Staples. Would HP 940c be a good choice? Or Epson
880?
