problem with HD??

so i got a HD from friend. when i boot up the comp from it, Bios can't detect the drive but when i boot up from win2000 cd, win2000 can detect the disk during initial installation of win2000. wat should i do???

Why do you need to see that the BIOS detects the drive? Are you trying to change settings on the HDD? If all you're trying to do is install W2k, then it doesn't seem like there's a problem.

i myself already have two HD and want add this one to my system. i have PCI IDE card but it can't detect that HD. so i tried hooking up that HD as the only HD and the bios can't detect it.

Describe for us your setup, we need to know how your system is setup. You say you already have 2 hard drives and you want to add a third one. How are your 2 current hard drives configured right now? For example, 1 hard drive is primary master, the other is a secondary master; and the 1 hard drive has Win2000 on it, the other drive is just for storage, etc....

And you say have a PCI IDE card but when you attach the 3rd hard drive to it the drive isn't detected. This is usually a result of an incorrect jumper setting on the drive. Some drives require the "cable select" jumper setting. And are you sure you installed the right drivers for the card?

tjaisv described my setup correctly except about my problem. the PCI card is installed correctly. however, it is unable to detect the third harddrive. i tried unplugging my other two HD and hooking up only the third drive and upon comp boot up, comp can't detect the HD.

Is it jumpered correctly? I think you should jumper it for master or single if it's a western digital drive and it's by itself on an ide channel.

What kind of PCI ide card is it?

it is a western digital harddrive and i set it to master...maybe i should try single or maybe auto detect.
i'm using maxtor ATA/133 PCI card.

Try setting the drive to "cable select". I believe this is the proper setting on the large WD drives.

I remember this problem with my wd drive. You dont set the jumper as master if the drive is by itself on a ide port,it should show you on the drive itself a non master/slave setting, use that setting and it will work.
