Problem with Hardware or with windows?

Last week I rebuilt my xp1700 system (768 pc2100, ti4200) system on a new a7v8x. Since I did the fresh install of XP, my computer has been crashing constantly. This occurs most often when I leave the computer idle and, when I go back to it, it is frozen. I have tried disabling the screensaver, the automatic shutdown of hard disks, etc. The system also crashes often when I am downloading something, or when I look at the properties of a file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows! Always...

Oh, wait, guess I should read the post. 😉

Lots and lots of problems from idle or power saver modes. Try disabling any power saving tools in the BIOS and in Windoze. Just tiny compatibility issues in the hardware=POOPS on you when going into idle mode.

Sounds like it could be heat. What are your CPU temps? I'd ensure your heat sink is firmly and correctly attached and that the HS fan is working. Also, hit up memtest86 and check your RAM.
