I have a PII300 256RAM PC and I installed Linux Mandrake 8.0. When I start the PC it goes on to boot and it reaches the "Current state: Booting" and it freezes there. When I did an install of linux in my P3 800 256 RAM machine everything went well.
Anybody can guess what is wrong?

So it says welcome and booting and freezes up. No LILO? And it has booted on the problem machines before. Any wierd hardware you have added since it stopped working?

Ah it has gone through Lilo ( i supose you mean the point where it asks you if you wanna boot in safe/fail mode-floppy-Linux,,,,,right?). I only have a video card on it, a sound card and a 56 k modem. I will take the modem and sound card off and see what happenes.

Ok here is the story.
I tried Mandrake on my new PC (with a different Hard disk though). My new PC has a 800 pentium 256 RAM g force 256ddr, Philips sound card Linksus Nick card. Install and boot up was smooth and with no problems.
I took the same Hard drive and I installed it on an older PC of mine which has:
PII 300
256 66MhZ Ram.
Revolution 9 vid card.
Sound blaster live
3com modem.
It had a kernel panic. After i saw that I uninstalled Linux and installed it again in the old PC. Tried to boot up but after the screen were it has the word "welcome" in many languages it got stuck up on "system status: Booting".
I tried to boot through fail safe and it boot up after some prompt questions.

maybe it is the CDROM...

I have had a lot of trouble from linux not being happy with misconfigured CDROMs
